The Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, will on Thursday, October 15, 2026, be inducted as an Honorary Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) in Abuja.

The honour recognises the Emir’s commitment to preserving traditional architecture, promoting cultural heritage and supporting architectural development in the Zazzau Emirate.

According to the Institute, the Emir was selected in recognition of his role as a patron of culture, heritage and architectural excellence, as well as his contributions to promoting aesthetic values, urban renewal and the preservation of traditional architecture across the Emirate.

The Institute also acknowledged his efforts in blending traditional and modern architectural designs while maintaining the historical identity of the Zazzau Emirate.

On August 18, 2026, a delegation led by representatives of the NIA President, alongside the Kaduna State Chairperson of the Institute, Architect Binta Othman Danmaliki, visited the Emir and presented him with a letter notifying him of his nomination for the prestigious honour.

The induction follows the Institute’s earlier engagement with the Zazzau Emirate on the promotion and preservation of traditional Hausa architecture.

On April 29, 2026, the Kaduna State Chapter of the NIA organised a two-day conference on Traditional Hausa Architecture: The Zazzau Experience, hosted by the Emir at his palace in Zaria.

The conference provided an opportunity to examine the architectural heritage of the Zazzau Emirate and highlight the importance of preserving traditional Hausa building designs for future generations.

The Emir’s induction is expected to further strengthen collaboration between traditional institutions and professional architects in promoting cultural heritage, sustainable urban development and architectural excellence.Note:
