The newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kaduna State Branch, Dr. Aisha Mustafa, has pledged to champion the welfare of doctors, strengthen healthcare delivery and promote unity among members after becoming the first woman to lead the association in the state's history.
Speaking shortly after her election, Dr. Mustafa expressed appreciation to doctors and dentists across Kaduna State for the confidence reposed in her leadership.
She prayed for wisdom, courage and divine guidance to fulfil the commitments outlined in her campaign manifesto, assuring members that her administration would be driven by action and accountability.
She stressed that the success of her administration would require the collective support of the State Officers' Committee, the State Executive Council, affiliate associations and every member of the NMA.
According to her, the election is over, and the association must now unite to advance the interests of medical professionals and improve healthcare services across the state.
Dr. Mustapfa said her administration would consolidate the achievements of previous NMA leadership while introducing new initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of doctors in both public and private health institutions.
She noted that medical practitioners across different sectors face unique challenges and promised to work closely with affiliate groups to identify their specific needs and develop practical, lasting solutions.
She identified welfare issues such as professional allowances, call-duty payments and other entitlements as key priorities, adding that sustained engagement with relevant stakeholders would be pursued to address these concerns.
The NMA chairman also pledged to prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of doctors, noting that healthcare workers often devote themselves to caring for others while neglecting their own health.
She warned that excessive workloads expose doctors to burnout, reduce efficiency and increase the likelihood of medical errors.
She announced plans to collaborate with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against assaults on healthcare workers and improve security within medical facilities.
She further described medical quackery as a growing threat to healthcare delivery in Kaduna State, saying her administration would intensify public awareness campaigns and strengthen collaboration with the Kaduna State Ministry of Health and regulatory agencies to combat illegal medical practice.
She expressed confidence that, with the support of members, the administration would successfully implement its programmes.
Dr. Mustapfa concluded by calling on members to put election differences behind them and work together for the progress of the association.
She assured members of an open-door policy, welcoming constructive criticism and practical suggestions that would strengthen the association and improve the welfare of doctors and dentists across Kaduna State.
