The National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), Zaria, is to collaborate with researchers from the German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research on neem-tree products development.
The researchers, Dr Abubakar Abdullahi and Mr Enrico Ille, visited the institute on Thursday, August 20, 2026, to learn from NARICT's decades of experience in neem-based research and product development, as well as explore areas of possible scientific collaboration.
Dr. Kabiru Mu'azu, the Director-General, NARICT, while receiving the researchers in his office in Zaria said the institute's involvement in neem research dates back to 1999, when it was mandated to design and operate neem-based fertiliser plants in Katsina and Kebbi states.
He said NARICT engineers worked with Indian experts to design and operate the first organic fertiliser plant in Katsina before it was eventually handed over to the state government.
Mu'azu said the institute had since expanded its research and product development activities, producing a range of neem-based products at its facilities in Zaria.
The Director-General explained that Neem products developed by the institute includes Organic fertiliser, Neem oil, Neem cake and Biopesticides.
He assured the visiting researchers of NARICT's readiness to collaborate on further research and innovation, particularly in harnessing locally available natural resources for sustainable development.

said their mission was to explore the institute's experience in neem research
They added that they will also identify possible areas of partnership that could advance biodiversity research and the development of useful products.
The Researchers explained that the visit, will further strengthen NARICT's drive for international research collaboration and sustainable innovation through the utilisation of locally available resources such as neem.
During the visit, the researchers toured NARICT's Organic Fertiliser Plant, where they were conducted round the facility by the plant's General Manager.
