The Faith and Cultural Champions Group of the Almanar Women Association (AMWA) has organized a community sensitization programme for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYWs) and mothers-in-law at Magajiya Community, Kwarbai A Ward, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The sensitization, facilitated by Metro Safiya Magaji, focused on increasing awareness of danger signs during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period, while encouraging participants to seek prompt medical attention whenever complications arise.

Speaking during the programme, Safiya Magaji educated participants on Birth Preparedness and Complication Readiness (BPCR), emphasizing the importance of early and regular antenatal care, delivery with skilled birth attendants, financial preparedness for childbirth, identifying a nearby health facility, and arranging transportation well before labour begins.

She explained that early recognition of pregnancy-related danger signs, combined with adequate birth preparedness, is critical to preventing avoidable maternal and newborn deaths.

The facilitator urged pregnant women to make full use of available maternal healthcare services and avoid delays in seeking medical attention whenever warning signs are noticed.

She also called on mothers-in-law, husbands and other family members to support pregnant women by encouraging regular antenatal care attendance, proper nutrition, delivery at health facilities under skilled health workers, and postnatal care after childbirth.

Participants actively engaged in the interactive session by asking questions and sharing experiences on maternal health challenges within their communities.

They expressed appreciation to the Faith and Cultural Champions Group of AMWA for organizing the sensitization programme and pledged to share the knowledge gained with other women and families in their communities.

The sensitization forms part of AMWA's ongoing efforts to improve Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) awareness among married Adolescent Girls and Young Women, promote safe motherhood, strengthen family support for maternal healthcare, and contribute to reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths in Kaduna State.
