Hon. Mahmud disclosed this shortly after the matriculation and oath-taking ceremony of the newly admitted diploma students, held at the college Premises in Zaria.
He emphasized that education is the foundation of societal development, adding that his ambition is to ensure that every underprivileged child has access to schooling, from primary level through secondary school and up to university.
He further noted that he has remained committed to supporting education, revealing that the total number of students he is currently sponsoring across different academic levels has reached 523, including some in the same year group.
As the Chairman, House Committee on Education, and Deputy Minority Whip of the Assembly, he advised the new students to adhere to the rules and regulations of KASU, since the college operates under the university’s academic framework.
He also urged them to maintain good conduct, discipline, and respect for school policies, both academically and socially.
In his remarks, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, represented by the Sarkin Kasuwan Zazzau, Alhaji Abdullahi Sidi Bamalli, commended Hon. Mahmud for his resilience and dedication to advancing the educational development of his constituency.
He added that the Zazzau Emirate takes pride in knowledge and learning, and that the lawmaker’s efforts in this sector are highly appreciated.
The College Director, Malam Muhammad Lawal Mai Elser, explained that the college hosts a cultural festival every two years, and that this year’s event introduced a new approach by inviting indigenous ethnic groups to showcase their traditions.
He said the initiative was aimed at promoting diversity, inclusion, and national cohesion, while also supporting the Kaduna State Government’s ongoing drive for peacebuilding and cultural integration.
Similarly, the member representing Zaria Kewaye Constituency, Hon. Haruna Isa Ihamo, said he attended the event to witness and acknowledge the educational support being provided by his colleague, Hon. Mahmud, affirming that the Assembly is always prepared to back any initiative that fosters community progress.
He assured residents that more educational empowerment programs will be introduced in the future.
Representing the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, Hajiya Haulat Madu Umar, who stood in for Prof. Yahaya Saleh Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to Allah and extended appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for his compassion and continuous support for students in Kaduna State, from primary through secondary school, and by God’s will, into higher education.
She added that the impact of these interventions will translate into meaningful development for the state and the society at large.
The matriculated students will commence Diploma programs in various departments, including: Qur’anic Science department,Computer Science department, and Mass Communication department.
The event also featured cultural competitions to enhance harmony among students, where the Bajju ethnic group emerged as the overall winner of the cultural showcase.
