Governor Uba Sani has flagged off the disbursement of about N2 billion as compensation to 860 households affected by the construction of township roads in Zaria and other parts of Kaduna State.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Zaria, the Governor said the occasion speaks to the character of governance and the responsibility of public service.
He also disclosed that since May 2023, his administration has compensated about 4,865 households at a cost of about N7 billion across the three senatorial zones, affirming the principle that every community deserves fairness.
Governor Sani recalled that his administration embarked on the reconstruction of 11 township roads in Zaria and several other local government areas, including Sabon Gari, Giwa, Soba, as well as the Rigasa and Unguwar Dosa township roads, to improve connectivity and expand economic activity.
According to him, the investments will ease movement, support commerce and bring communities closer to schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services.
He appreciated the 860 affected households across Sabon Gari, Zaria and Giwa for their patience and cooperation, acknowledging that relocation comes with uncertainty and disruption.
He stressed that the payment fulfills an obligation owed to citizens and ensures that the benefits of improved infrastructure are not secured through avoidable hardship for those directly affected.
Senator UBA SANI charged contractors to maintain high standards of workmanship, protect public safety and honour contractual obligations, while urging traditional leaders and community members to sustain cooperation.
