SPEAKER ABBAS COMMISSIONS SOLAR ENERGY PROJECTS, FLAGS OFF RENEWED HOPE RENEWABLE ENERGY PROGRAMME IN ZARIA
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Abbas Tajudeen, has commissioned and flagged off the Renewed Hope Renewable Energy Solarization Programme for Zaria Federal Constituency, aimed at providing alternative electricity to tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools, hospitals, small businesses, security outposts, worship centres and primary healthcare centres.
The event, held at the Kongo Conference venue in Zaria, also witnessed the commissioning of a 110KVA solar power installation at the Kongo Campus of Ahmadu Bello University, alongside other development projects. Reports indicate that the interventions are designed to provide more reliable electricity and reduce dependence on conventional power supply and generators.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Engineer Ahmad Jamilu Jaga, said several institutions, worship centres, small business areas, security posts, markets and the Zazzau Emirate Palace that previously depended on the national grid are now benefiting from solar energy interventions facilitated through the Speaker.
Engineer Jaga said the solarization would help reduce the financial burden associated with electricity bills, while commending Dr Abbas Tajudeen for what he described as various interventions in education, healthcare, empowerment and scholarships across Zaria and the wider area.
In his remarks, Dr Abbas Tajudeen said the importance of renewable energy had become more critical at a time when reliable electricity remained a challenge, stressing that students need electricity to study, businesses require power to operate and security agencies also need dependable energy for their operations. He said the projects were being implemented in line with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda on renewable energy.
Also speaking, the representative of Sanagy Power Company, Engineer Adewale, highlighted the training of youths in the installation, maintenance and repair of solar energy systems. He said the skills-acquisition component, facilitated through the Speaker's intervention, was intended to equip young people with modern technical skills and create opportunities for employment and self-reliance.
The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Mallam Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, represented by the Wazirin Zazzau Khadi Inuwa Aminu commended the initiative, while a former member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly represented Zaria Waje and Vice Chairman of the Former Kaduna State House of Assembly Members Forum, Zone One, Hon Yakubu Soja, expressed appreciation for the development interventions. He assured the Speaker of their continued support, stressing that the benefits of the projects extend beyond Zaria to communities across the northern part of Nigeria. By Mikailu Ibrahim Umar
