The Giwa Local Government Legislative Council in Kaduna State has removed its Speaker, Hon. Yahuza Shafi'u, from office and immediately elected Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim Galadima as the new Speaker of the council.
The decision was reached during a sitting of the legislative council, where eight out of the 11 councillors signed and supported the motion for the impeachment of the former Speaker.
The motion for the impeachment was moved by Hon. Salihu Junaidu, Councillor representing Panhauya Ward.
Following the removal of Hon. Yahuza Shafi'u, the councillors proceeded to elect Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim Galadima, Councillor representing Galadimawa Ward, as the new Speaker of the Giwa Local Government Legislative Council.
During the same sitting, Hon. Magaji Adamu of Giwa Ward was elected as the new Majority Leader of the council.
The eight councillors who signed in support of the impeachment motion are:
1. Hon. Abdullahi Isma'il Kidandan
2. Hon. Suleiman Ahmad Mohammad Shika
3. Hon. Salihu Junaidu – Panhauya Ward
4. Hon. Mukhtar Ibrahim – Kadage Ward
5. Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim Galadima – Galadimawa Ward
6. Hon. Suleiman Ahmad – Gangara Ward
7. Hon. Yahuza Ibrahim Garba – Danmahawayi Ward
8. Hon. Magaji Adamu – Giwa Ward
The development has resulted in a change in the leadership of the legislative arm of Giwa Local Government, with Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim Galadima now assuming the position of Speaker and Hon. Magaji Adamu emerging as Majority Leader.
The newly elected leadership is expected to take charge of the affairs of the council and continue legislative activities in the interest of the people of Giwa Local Government.
