Residents Appeal for Urgent Rehabilitation of Zaria–Soba–Pambegua–Saminaka Road

The deplorable condition of the Zaria–Soba–Pambegua–Saminaka Road has continued to generate concern among residents, motorists and farmers, as communities along the route call for urgent government intervention. The road, which stretches for about seventy-five kilometres, links four to five local government areas and serves as a major economic route in Kaduna State.

Residents told Nagarta Radio that the road was constructed about forty to forty-five years ago but has received little or no major maintenance since then. They explained that the road is vital to thousands of people, particularly farmers who produce large quantities of different food crops, but the poor condition has made the transportation of agricultural produce and other goods extremely difficult.

The communities further stated that previous administrations had at different times initiated plans to rehabilitate the road. However, they alleged that despite the commencement of some rehabilitation works, the projects were abandoned before completion, leaving the road in an even worse condition.

Some residents also recalled that about two years ago, the Senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial District, Barrister Ibrahim Khalid Soba, accompanied members of the Senate Committee on Works to inspect the road and assured the communities that efforts would be made to facilitate its rehabilitation. According to them, no visible progress has been made since the visit.

Motorists and commercial drivers operating along the route described the road as one of the most challenging in the area. They explained that frequent vehicle breakdowns have increased their maintenance costs, as many vehicles require regular repairs after each trip. Passengers also lamented that transport fares have doubled due to the poor state of the road.

The affected communities appealed to all elected representatives from the area, including members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, members of the House of Representatives, Senator Barrister Ibrahim Khalid Soba, and Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, to urgently intervene by ensuring the complete rehabilitation of the road in order to ease the hardship faced by residents and promote economic activities.
