The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, CFR, has commended the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, for his efforts in driving development projects across the Zazzau Emirate.

The Gombe monarch stated this on Tuesday in Zaria at the end of a two-day historic visit to the Zazzau Emirate, where he was hosted by the Emir of Zazzau, who is also the Chairman, Kaduna State Council of Chiefs.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the visit, Emir Abubakar III said the trip was aimed at strengthening the age-long historical ties and brotherhood between the Gombe and Zazzau Emirates.

“This visit has afforded us the opportunity to further cement the historic relationship and kinship that exists between the Zazzau and Gombe Emirates,” he said.

Both traditional rulers recalled their common origin dating back to the 19th century Jihad of Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio, noting that both Emirates traced their roots to the movement for religious reformation, just governance, promotion of education and peace in Northern Nigeria.

The Emir of Zazzau Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, described the visit as “a reaffirmation of unity, mutual respect and shared heritage between two Emirates.” He also commended his Gombe counterpart for his role in promoting peace, education and community development in Gombe State.

In his remarks, the Emir of Gombe thanked Emir Bamalli for the warm reception and praised his leadership as Chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs. He said such meetings were critical to fostering national unity and preserving cultural values.

The two monarchs offered prayers for continued peace and prosperity in their Emirates, Kaduna and Gombe States, and Nigeria at large.

On the second day of the visit, Emir Abubakar III, accompanied by Emir Bamalli, toured several historic and institutional sites within Zaria.

The sites visited include:
1. The tomb of Malam Musa, the first Fulani Emir of Zazzau, located behind the Zazzau Emir’s Palace.
2. The royal cemetery within the palace housing past Emirs including the late Emirs Ja’afaru, Muhammadu Aminu and Shehu Idris.
3. The tomb of the late Emir Abubakar at the Correctional Centre, Zaria, Kofar Doka.

At the Correctional Centre, the two Emirs addressed inmates on the need for reformation, repentance and reintegration into society as better citizens. They also prayed for peace and rehabilitation for the inmates.

Other institutions visited were Barewa College, Zaria— an alma mater of the late Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar II, CFR, the Zaria Printing Press, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the National Animal Production Research Institute, NAPRI, Shika.

Emir Abubakar III said the visit was designed to further strengthen the historic and cultural bond between Zazzau and Gombe Emirates and promote unity among traditional institutions in Northern Nigeria.
