The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has appealed to the Kaduna State Government to fully implement the remaining 30 percent of the CONTEDISS salary structure approved for workers in tertiary institutions across the state.
The appeal was made during the regular meeting of the Polytechnics and Others Trade Group Council held at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, on Wednesday and Thursday, May 13th and 14th, 2026.
In his address at the meeting, the Chairman of NASU, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic chapter, Comrade Mohamed Aliyu Kwarbai, commended the Kaduna State Government for approving the implementation of 70 percent of the CONTEDISS salary structure, describing it as a major milestone in the union’s struggle for fair remuneration and improved welfare for members.
He, however, appealed to the government to consider the full implementation of the remaining 30 percent in order to further improve the living conditions of workers and bring them closer to the standard of welfare they deserve.
Comrade Kwarbai also expressed appreciation to the state council and national leadership of NASU for their unwavering support and commitment toward the welfare of members. He particularly praised the leadership qualities of the National President of NASU, Barrister Dr. Hassan Makolo, and the General Secretary, Prince Peters Adeyemi, JP, for their strategic direction and dedication to the union’s objectives.
He further noted that the approval of the extension of retirement age for non-academic staff to 65 years was another significant achievement that would allow experienced workers to contribute more effectively before retirement.
Speaking at the meeting on behalf of the National President of NASU, Barrister Dr. Hassan Makolo, the Deputy National President and Chairman of the Polytechnic Trade Group Council, Comrade Raphael Oloyode, who also chaired the meeting, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of workers across educational institutions in the country.
Comrade Oloyode emphasized the importance of unity, dialogue, and cooperation among union members, stressing that collective efforts remain the strongest tools for achieving progress and defending the interests of workers.
He also commended the management of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, and sister unions for maintaining a cordial working relationship with NASU, adding that such collaboration would continue to strengthen the institution and improve industrial harmony.
The meeting brought together NASU leaders, labour stakeholders, union executives, and delegates from different tertiary institutions, who discussed issues relating to staff welfare, salary implementation, union solidarity, and the future of non-academic workers in educational institutions.
