A member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Mahmud Lawal Ismaila, has officially withdrawn from the race for the House of Representatives seat in Zaria, citing party unity and directive from the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ismaila, who represents Birnin Zaria Constituency and serves as Deputy Chief Whip as well as Chairman of the House Committee on Education, announced his decision on Sunday, April 26, 2026, shortly after receiving widespread support from stakeholders and residents across Zaria for his ambition.

In a statement, the lawmaker expressed deep gratitude to Allah for the opportunity and to the people of Zaria for the overwhelming show of love, support, and confidence in his aspiration to represent them at the National Assembly.

However, he said his decision to step down followed a directive from Governor Uba Sani, whom he described as a father and leader, urging him to support the APC candidate, Iyan Zazzau, in order to ensure victory for the party at all levels.

He called on party leaders at the state, local government, and ward levels, as well as supporters across Zaria, to remain united and work collectively toward the success of the APC in the forthcoming elections.

Ismaila also urged his supporters to remain patient and steadfast, expressing optimism that their collective efforts would yield positive outcomes, while reaffirming his commitment to the progress and unity of the party.
