The Sensitazation program,held at Islamic Centre Islamiya Magume in Tukur-Tukur Ward, targeted adolescent girls, young women, and men, with a focus on improving awareness of safe motherhood practices.
Participants were educated on the importance of early and regular antenatal care, safe delivery, timely postnatal care, and appropriate child spacing to ensure the wellbeing of both mother and child.
The organizers also emphasized the need for stronger male and family support, particularly in decision-making, provision of transportation, and financial preparedness to enhance safe pregnancy and childbirth outcomes.
A Health Expert, Aisha Ahmad, said the sensitization addressed key issues such as personal hygiene, recognition of danger signs during pregnancy, and the importance of postnatal care.
She stressed the need for behavioral change among men, noting that pregnancy comes with physical and emotional challenges that require consistent support from spouses.
According to her, men play a vital role by accompanying their wives to antenatal clinics, ensuring timely access to healthcare services, and supporting them before and after childbirth, including during breastfeeding and routine immunization.
She added that increasing awareness within the community would gradually lead to positive behavioral change and improved health outcomes.
In their separate remarks, Alhaji Jibrin, Umar Abubakar and Khadija Sa’idu urged participants to make effective use of the knowledge gained and share it with others in their communities.
Some participants, including Maryam Isa and Yusuf Bello, appreciated the organizers for what they described as a timely and impactful programme, and pledged to step down the knowledge to others.
The sensitization forms part of ongoing efforts to improve maternal and child health through sustained community engagement and advocacy.
