Holders of government offices have been called upon to emulate the leadership style of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, with particular emphasis on integrity, accountability, patriotism, and commitment to the welfare of the people.
The call was made by an Islamic cleric and community leader in Zaria, Malam Magaji Umar Dan Aljanna, while speaking with journalists to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the death of Sir Ahmadu Bello.
Malam Magaji Umar Dan Aljanna said leaders of the past governed with honesty and a strong sense of responsibility, without discrimination based on religion or ethnicity, noting that such leadership qualities played a significant role in promoting unity and development.
He urged present-day leaders to reflect on history and draw lessons from the exemplary leadership of the late Sardauna by implementing people-centred policies and projects that would leave lasting legacies even after leaving office.
The cleric also appealed to governors of Northern states and other key stakeholders to urgently address the challenges facing Radio Nigeria Kaduna, describing the station as one of the historic institutions established by Sir Ahmadu Bello.
According to him, the station is currently facing serious operational challenges and requires immediate intervention to restore its relevance and prevent further decline.
Malam Magaji Umar Dan Aljanna further called on Nigerians to intensify prayers for peace, improved security, and sustained economic growth across the country.
He also advised parents to pay closer attention to the moral upbringing of their children, especially in view of the increasing cases of moral decadence among the youth.
The cleric urged young people to pursue both religious and Western education, as well as acquire vocational and entrepreneurial skills to enhance self-reliance.
In addition, he called on the general public to uphold the fear of God in their daily activities and to support security agencies by providing useful information that would help address the security challenges facing Northern Nigeria and the country at large.
He concluded by appealing to the three tiers of government to initiate policies and programmes aimed at improving the living standards of Nigerians.
