The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, , says Nigeria is recording steady progress in the fight against insecurity due to the bold and decisive actions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, , and the resilience of the nation’s security forces and citizens.

Speaker Abbas made the remarks on Sunday during the Renewed Hope Empowerment Programme in Zaria, Kaduna State, where thousands of empowerment items were distributed to farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs, and community groups.

The Speaker noted that empowerment is a fundamental pillar of national security, stressing that stronger communities weaken the influence of criminal elements.

“When farmers have the tools they need, production rises. When young people have livelihoods, they turn away from violence. When women gain financial strength, families become stable,” he said.
“Today’s distribution is part of our local contribution to solving a national challenge.”

The two-day programme began on Saturday with the groundbreaking of major education and skills development projects across Zaria Federal Constituency.

Major Empowerment Items Distributed

Items distributed on Sunday include:

50 tractors

92 combine threshers

4,000 solar-powered water pumps

1,920 grinding machines

450 petrol-powered water pumps

1,500 fertiliser applicators

1,500 knapsack sprayers

1,700 deep freezers

1,400 industrial sewing machines

25 SUVs for traditional rulers

Speaker Abbas said the government will continue putting tools “directly into the hands of the people,” adding that empowerment is most effective when it strengthens households and improves livelihoods.

Traditional Leaders Recognised as Frontline Stabilizers

The Speaker explained that traditional institutions remain the custodians of peace at the grassroots.

“They mediate disputes, calm tensions, and safeguard unity. These vehicles will enhance their mobility and strengthen their roles in peacebuilding and conflict prevention,” he said.

Commitment to Grassroots Prosperity

Speaker Abbas said the empowerment items reflect a development philosophy that places families and communities at the centre of national planning.

“When we empower the family, we empower the community. When the community grows, the nation becomes stronger,” he added.

As the representative of Zaria Federal Constituency, the Speaker said his long-term vision includes simultaneous investment in education, skills development, livelihoods, and community infrastructure.

“This is a complete strategy—a plan that supports women, strengthens farmers, uplifts traditional leaders, and expands opportunities for traders,” he said.

Call for Unity and Resilience

Speaker Abbas urged citizens to remain united and steadfast, noting that while challenges persist, progress is visible.

He pledged to continue attracting federal projects and investments to Zaria, enhance infrastructure, and support key economic sectors.

“We will continue to defend the interests of this constituency and work with President Tinubu for the progress of our country,” he said.
