Kaduna Trains 10,000 Teachers Under 1 Million Teachers Initiative
Secondary school Teachers in Kaduna State are set to benefit from a major digital training programme aimed at improving teaching standards and upgrading classroom delivery under the 1 Million Teachers Initiative, a programme designed to transform the education sector through technology-driven learning.
The Director of Initiatives and logistics of one million teachers, Mr. Babatunde Openibo stated this during a one day capacity building workshop organised by the one million teachers, held at Alhuda Huda College Zaria.
Mr. Babatunde Openibo, said over 10,000 teachers are expected to benefit from the training.
Babatunde added that the initiative is supported by partners including HP, Girl Rising, the Canadian Government, Cardinal Electricity Transmission, and Dignity Finance, all contributing to ensure teachers receive continuous learning opportunities.
He further noted that the programme would equip teachers with essential 21st-century skills such as effective classroom management, student engagement, mentorship, and strategies for supporting slow learners, adding that the long-term goal is for Kaduna State to stand out as a hub of educational excellence.
Similarly, the President of One Million Teachers, kano state, Haj. Halima Sani Sada, emphasized the importance of ongoing professional development, describing the initiative as a lifelong learning system designed to help teachers continuously upgrade their skills and mentor others.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director of Schools, Kaduna State Ministry of Education, Alhaji Mukhtar Maude—represented by the Principal of Alhuda-Huda College, Zaria, Malam Abdulrahman Yelwa—reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving teacher performance.
He stated that programmes like this will help produce students who can compete favourably at both national and global levels. He urged teachers to fully engage in the online training.
In her contribution, the Principal Education Officer of the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, Public Schools Department, Hajiya Hadiza Usman Abdullahi, described the workshop as highly significant because it focuses on building teachers’ capacity in using social media and other digital tools for effective teaching.
She explained that the participants are representatives from various schools who will, after completing the workshop, step down the training to more than 10,000 teachers across Kaduna State.
Some participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity and assured that they would apply the knowledge gained to improve their teaching methods.
The teachers in attendance were drawn from all secondary schools within Zone One of Kaduna State.
