A Chief Magistrate's Court sitting in Chediya GRA, Sabon Gari, Zaria, has adjourned hearing in a case involving Karim General Merchant and the occupants of House Number Three, Torching Road, GRA, Zaria, to October nineteenth, twenty twenty-six.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Ibrahim Sa'idu Ja'e, adjourned the case after hearing submissions from counsel representing both parties.
At the proceedings, the occupants of the house, through their counsel, Abubakar A. Muhammad, filed an application seeking to set aside an earlier order granted in favour of Karim General Merchant.
They also asked the court to summon counsel to the merchant, Barrister Buraida Jafar, to explain the demolition of the house, alleging that the earlier court order did not authorise its complete demolition.
Speaking to newsmen after the court sitting, counsel to the occupants, Abubakar A. Muhammad, said an application had earlier been filed, following which an injunction was granted by the court.
He explained that efforts were subsequently made to serve the relevant court processes and the enrolled order on the respondents but were allegedly unsuccessful because their former counsel was no longer representing them.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of counsel to Karim General Merchant, Barrister Buraida Jafar, were unsuccessful, as he declined to grant an interview, citing another case at the High Court.
The matter has been adjourned to October nineteenth for further hearing.
