Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General, Presidential Campaign Council, has sought the prayers and blessings of traditional and religious leaders for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

The director-general made the appeal in Zaria on Thursday during a visit to Zazzau Emirate Council.

Compasstimes report that the visit was part of council's nationwide consultations with traditional and religious leaders.

He said the council had made it a tradition to begin its engagements with royal fathers and religious leaders to seek their prayers and blessings for a successful campaign.

According to him, the consultations also provide an opportunity to brief traditional rulers on the achievements of the Tinubu administration and its plans for national development.

Yari said the council was committed to promoting national unity, peaceful coexistence, justice and fairness through its engagements with traditional institutions across the country.

He recalled Nigeria’s history of power rotation between the North and South, citing the transitions from former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo to Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and the incumbent, Tinubu.

He urged Nigerians to uphold the spirit of unity and respect the country’s political arrangements in the interest of peace, stability and national development.

The senator noted that no government could meet all the expectations of its citizens, noting that while some policies might attract criticism, the priority should be improving livelihoods and moving the country forward.

Yari said the council had also briefed the traditional rulers on the administration’s infrastructure projects and economic interventions, including the proposed Abuja–Maradi railway and gas pipeline projects.

He said the initiatives were expected to improve transportation, enhance electricity supply and stimulate industrial development.

He also cited road projects, including the Abuja–Kano–Maiduguri highway and the Zaria–Sokoto road, as part of efforts to improve connectivity and boost economic activities.

Yari added that the administration was implementing student support programmes and conditional cash transfers to assist vulnerable households and small-scale business operators.

He explained that the consultations were designed to familiarise traditional rulers with the government’s achievements and development agenda before the campaign council began direct engagements with voters.

He expressed confidence that the engagements would help voters better understand the administration’s record and make informed decisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Responding, the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Bamalli, said the emirate continued to enjoy relative peace and security.

Bamalli prayed for the emergence of good and just leaders committed to promoting development, peace and security across the country.

He also prayed for peaceful and credible elections, urging political candidates to conduct themselves with honesty, sincerity and a strong sense of responsibility.

The Emir called on political leaders to regard Nigerians as one family and work together for the common good, irrespective of political differences.
