Management and staff of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) have celebrated the second anniversary of the Chief Commissioner, Hon. Bashir Abubakar, MFR, commending his leadership and commitment to staff welfare and institutional development.

The surprise celebration, held on Tuesday at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, caught Abubakar unawares as he arrived at the premises and was greeted by members of management and staff who had gathered to mark the milestone.

In her remarks, the Secretary to the Commission, Hajia Aishatu Aliyu, described Abubakar as a “rare gem” who had “come, seen and conquered”, citing his compassion, sincerity and commitment to the welfare of workers.

She said the Chief Commissioner had demonstrated concern for staff and remained committed to strengthening the Commission in the discharge of its mandate.

Other members of the management who spoke at the occasion commended Abubakar for his leadership over the past two years, particularly his attention to staff welfare and efforts to advance the Commission’s activities.

They described the anniversary as an opportunity for the staff to acknowledge his contribution to the institution and to express their appreciation for his leadership.

Responding, the Chief Commissioner, who is also the Deputy Secretary-General of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA), described the gesture as a “strategic coup”, expressing appreciation to the staff for the surprise.

Abubakar thanked the management and staff for organizing the surprise celebration, saying the gesture demonstrated the strong relationship between the leadership and workforce of the Commission.

He urged the staff to remain committed to the PCC’s mandate of protecting citizens against administrative injustice and ensuring that complaints are addressed fairly and effectively.

The Public Complaints Commission is Nigeria’s ombudsman institution, responsible for investigating complaints of administrative injustice, abuse of office and other forms of maladministration involving public institutions and companies operating in the country.
