The Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has distanced itself from a purported political gathering in Birnin Kebbi where some individuals allegedly endorsed Governor Nasir Idris Kaura for a second term.
In a statement issued by Hon. Muttaka Balarabe Yakubu (MBY), on behalf of concerned stakeholders of the Turaki-led PDP, the group said the meeting, reportedly held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, was allegedly convened at the instance of Gen. Ishaya R. Bamayi.
The statement said some individuals, including Buhari Bala, reportedly presented themselves as representatives of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led PDP and endorsed the governor for another term.
However, the group said the Turaki-led PDP had no connection with the meeting and that no mandate or authorisation was given to anyone to negotiate, endorse or make political commitments on behalf of the Turaki political family.
It described the purported endorsement as an attempt by some individuals to use the name and political influence of the Turaki-led PDP without the approval of its leadership.
The group maintained that any decision by the Turaki-led PDP to enter into a political alliance or endorse a candidate ahead of the 2027 elections would be communicated through the appropriate leadership after due consultation.
It therefore urged PDP members, supporters, stakeholders, the media and the general public to disregard the alleged endorsement, stressing that the Turaki-led PDP had neither endorsed Governor Nasir Idris Kaura nor authorised anyone to speak on its behalf regarding the matter.
The statement further called for transparency and proper consultation in political decision-making, saying the people of Kebbi State deserved to distinguish between officially sanctioned decisions and the personal political activities of individuals.
The Turaki-led PDP, according to the statement, would not allow its identity, credibility and political goodwill to be used for purposes not sanctioned by its leadership and members.
