COMMUNITIES OF TURAWA KURUNGUFI DINYA RAISE CONCERN ON THE ONGOING DELAY OF TURAWA KURUNGUFI DINYA ROAD CONSTRUCTION by Mikail Ibrahim Fagachi
Residents of Turawa and neighbouring communities in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State have expressed concern over the slow pace and alleged poor quality of the ongoing road construction linking Turawa, Kurungufi, Daha and Dinya towns.
The Chairman of the Turawa Development Association, Alhaji Abdullahi Muntari Turawa, made the complaint shortly after an inspection tour of the project with a team of journalists. He, however, commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for initiating the road project, describing it as a major intervention that would improve transportation, boost economic activities and ease movement for residents of the benefiting communities, especially on market days.
Alhaji Abdullahi Muntari said despite the importance of the project, members of the community were worried over the slow pace of work and what they described as visible lapses in the quality of construction. According to him, the community had on several occasions engaged the contractor to express their concerns, although they acknowledged they were not technical experts in road construction.
He appealed to residents to remain patient and continue supporting the project while urging the Kaduna State Government and the Soba Local Government Council to intensify supervision to ensure that the work meets the required standard and is completed within the stipulated time.
In separate remarks, the Village Heads of Turawa Alh Dahiru Umar, Daha and Dinya appreciated the Kaduna State Government for awarding the contract and also commended the contractor for remaining on site despite the challenges encountered during the execution of the project. They appealed to their subjects to remain peaceful, patient and law-abiding throughout the construction period.
Compass time also spoke with drivers, passengers and other residents, many of whom welcomed the road project but appealed for its speedy completion and strict adherence to quality standards to ensure durability and maximum benefit to the communities.
Speaking to Nagarta Radio during the inspection, the contractor handling the project Engineer Ahmad Kachalla explained that the construction was being carried out strictly in line with the contract specifications. He noted that some of the concerns raised by residents stemmed from a lack of technical knowledge about road construction. The contractor appreciated the cooperation received from the communities, appealed for continued patience, assured them that the project would be completed soon, and called on the Kaduna State Government to consider upgrading the Turawa–Soba road in the future.
