The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged newly trained Nigerian Army soldiers to be resolute in confronting terrorists and other criminal elements while upholding professionalism and respect for human rights.
General Shaibu gave the charge on Saturday during the Passing Out Parade of the 90 Regular Recruit Intake held at the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State.
He said the recruits had undergone rigorous military training, including Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations, which had adequately prepared them to tackle the security challenges facing the country.
According to him, the Nigerian Army remains committed to denying criminal elements safe havens across the country, stressing that all military operations must be conducted in strict compliance with the Rules of Engagement and the Law of Armed Conflict.
The Army Chief also commended the support being provided by President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, towards strengthening the capacity of the military to effectively safeguard lives and property.
He noted that Nigerians expect the newly inducted soldiers to demonstrate discipline, operational excellence and unwavering loyalty to the Constitution.
General Shaibu further cautioned the recruits against the misuse of social media, warning that unprofessional online conduct and the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information could jeopardize operational security and undermine efforts to combat insecurity.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that the newly passed-out soldiers would play a crucial role in sustaining ongoing military offensives aimed at restoring peace, stability and security across the country.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, family members of the recruits and other distinguished guests from different parts of the country.
