The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, has formally declared his intention to seek re-election for a fifth term as the representative of Zaria Federal Constituency, amid a massive turnout of supporters and party loyalists in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The declaration ceremony, held at the Mallawa Eid Ground in Zaria, attracted thousands of supporters who participated in a solidarity march from the Emir’s Palace through major streets including Babban Dodo, Lemu, Kofar Doka and Tudun Wada before converging at the venue.
Addressing the crowd, Speaker Abbas said his decision to seek another mandate was anchored on visible achievements, impactful constituency projects and a proven record of service to the people.
He emphasized that his representation had gone beyond promises, stressing that the projects executed across the constituency were practical, measurable and life-changing.
“This declaration is not based on promises alone. It is based on work. It is based on results. It is based on a record that our people can see and verify,” he stated.
The Speaker highlighted his legislative achievements since joining the National Assembly in 2011, revealing that he had sponsored 74 bills, with 21 already signed into law.
According to him, the bills were designed to strengthen governance and address national challenges rather than merely attract publicity.
Speaker Abbas also outlined numerous empowerment initiatives facilitated under his representation, including the distribution of tractors, fertilizers and agricultural equipment to farmers, as well as support for transport operators, youth groups, community leaders and small business owners through tricycles and motorcycles.
He disclosed that 117 vehicles, 200 tricycles and 1,000 motorcycles had been distributed across communities and support groups within the constituency.
On economic empowerment, the Speaker noted that 2,400 beneficiaries received direct financial support, including 800 trained beneficiaries who got N250,000 each, while another 1,600 small business owners received N100,000 each to support their businesses and livelihoods.
Speaking on education, Abbas described the establishment of the Education City Project in Zaria, valued at about N80 billion, as one of the landmark achievements of his representation.
He added that nearly 30,000 students had also benefited from a scholarship programme worth over N5 billion, alongside several school rehabilitation projects and educational interventions aimed at improving access to quality education.
In the health sector, the Speaker pointed to the construction of primary healthcare centres across communities and the recent commissioning of a 100-bed Specialist Hospital facilitated through his constituency intervention efforts with support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He further highlighted ongoing infrastructural projects, including roads, bridges and rural access initiatives aimed at connecting underserved communities to economic opportunities and social services.
Reflecting on his emergence as Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Abbas recalled securing 353 votes from lawmakers nationwide, describing it as one of the strongest mandates in the history of the House.
He said under his leadership, the House had considered over 2,000 bills within two years, passed more than 180 bills and secured presidential assent for over 50.
The Speaker also commended President Tinubu for demonstrating courage in implementing difficult but necessary reforms, while appreciating Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for promoting peace and development across the state.
He equally thanked the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, youths and supporters across Zaria and Sabon Gari for their continued support and confidence in his leadership.
Several APC stakeholders who attended the event praised Speaker Abbas for what they described as quality representation, inclusive leadership and sustained developmental interventions across Zaria Federal Constituency.
