The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure, stated this during the maiden matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session.
He urged the students to uphold discipline, integrity, and academic excellence throughout their academic journey.
Professor Bunkure described the occasion as historic, as it marks the formal admission of the institution’s first cohort of undergraduate students.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the large number of admitted students reflects the growing confidence of the public in the University.
He emphasized that admission into the University is a privilege that comes with responsibilities, urging the students to remain focused and committed to their studies.
Professor Bunkure warned against acts of indiscipline, including examination malpractice, cultism, and drug abuse, stressing that the University operates a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct.
He further revealed that the institution has introduced modern learning systems, including digital learning platforms and computer-based testing, in line with global best practices.
The Vice-Chancellor added that security measures such as CCTV and drone surveillance systems have been deployed to ensure the safety of students on campus.
He also highlighted ongoing infrastructural development and the establishment of a user-friendly University portal aimed at improving academic and administrative efficiency.
Professor Bunkure advised the students to maintain at least seventy-five percent lecture attendance, obey University regulations, and maintain cordial relationships with the host community.
He congratulated the students on their successful admission and encouraged them to strive for excellence in both character and learning.
In his remarks the former Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has advised newly admitted students to stay away from all forms of social vices, including cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, internet fraud, and violent behaviour.
He also called on the students to respect the rules and regulations governing the institution.
Prof . Abbas explained that matriculation signifies a formal commitment to abide by the university’s code of conduct and academic guidelines.
