The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted approval to Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State, to commence 18 additional academic programmes beginning from the 2025/2026 academic session.
This was contained in an official letter dated February 20, 2026, signed by the Director of Polytechnic and Allied Programmes Department, Dr. Mrs. Fatima Kabir Umar, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, following a Digital Resources Inspection Verification exercise conducted at the institution between January 27 and 28, 2026.
According to the Board, the newly approved programmes cut across engineering, science laboratory technology, agriculture, media studies, law and management disciplines. Among the programmes approved are HND Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering, HND Computer Engineering Technology, ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology, ND Renewable Energy Technology, HND Journalism and Media Studies, HND Film and Multimedia Production, ND Library and Information Science, and ND Common and Islamic Law, ND Law and ND Procurement and Supply Chain management.
NBTE stated that admission into the approved programmes must commence from the 2025/2026 academic session, warning that failure to do so would lead to the lapse of the approval pending another resource inspection visit. The Board further explained that the programmes would undergo full accreditation when the first set of students reaches the fourth semester.
The approval is widely seen as part of the ongoing institutional development efforts under the leadership of the Rector, Engr. Dr. Muhammad Kabir Abdullahi, whose administration has prioritised academic expansion, infrastructure improvement, and programme diversification aimed at strengthening technical education delivery in the Polytechnic.
Since assuming office, the Rector has initiated several reforms geared toward repositioning the institution, including upgrading digital learning facilities, improving staff capacity development programmes, strengthening compliance with NBTE standards, expanding industry partnerships, and promoting innovation-driven technical training to enhance students’ employability.
The regulatory body also emphasised that it remains the responsibility of the institution to invite NBTE for full accreditation within the stipulated period, noting that failure to comply may disqualify the programmes from further admissions.
The approval is expected to expand academic opportunities and further boost technical and vocational education capacity at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, thereby contributing to manpower development in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
