The 45th Convocation Lecture of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has generated renewed calls for Africa’s economic reintegration and a change in students’ orientation towards innovation and global competitiveness.
The former Chairman of Kudan Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Dr. Shuaibu Bawa Kana, made the call after attending the lecture delivered by the Director-General of the World Trade Organization.
Dr. Jaja described the lecture as timely, noting that Africa is grappling with economic inefficiency, insecurity, and infrastructural deficits amid evolving global trends.
According to him, African countries must work together to reposition the continent, while students must embrace creativity and entrepreneurship rather than relying solely on paid employment after graduation.
In his remarks, the President of the Nigerian Union of Transport Workers, West Africa, Dr. Najim Yasin, praised Ahmadu Bello University for producing a large number of quality graduates.
Yasin urged the graduands to represent the university positively in society, adding that sectors such as transportation are ready to absorb disciplined and hardworking youths.
