The 1998/1999 set of Government Secondary School, Kofar Kibo, Zaria, has held its 28th anniversary Annual General Meeting and reunion, marked by a special reception in honour of the set’s first professor.

Speaking,  President of the association, Abubakar Dalhatu Sarki Buba, said the union was formed to promote mutual support among members, assist their alma mater, and strengthen unity and friendship within the set.

He explained that the association has made remarkable progress over the years, adding that in view of the prevailing economic challenges, members who are financially able have continued to support less-privileged colleagues.

According to him, the union always gives priority to pressing needs as they arise.

The president commended members for their sustained unity, cooperation, and commitment to charitable activities, expressing hope that younger alumni sets would emulate their dedication.

He also appreciated members and supporters for their contributions towards the success of the reunion and other humanitarian interventions of the association.

In his remarks, the Principal of the school, Malam Zubairu Aminu, thanked the old students for their continued support and expressed delight over the steady progress recorded by the school.

However, he identified some challenges confronting the institution, particularly the shortage of laboratory equipment needed for effective practical examinations.

He stressed that alumni associations play a vital role in educational and societal development.

The honouree, Professor Mu’azu, expressed gratitude to his classmates for the recognition, describing the honour as deeply touching.

He said their journey from classmates to brothers remains a source of pride, and advised students to remain focused and committed to their studies in order to achieve similar academic heights.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Comrade Usman Umar, said despite life’s challenges, members have remained committed to supporting the development of their former school.

One of the alumni, Sama’ila Tajuddeen Bamalli, described the initiative as a selfless service whose true reward lies with God, noting that the reunion provided an opportunity for members to reconnect and celebrate the academic success of one of their own.

As part of the event, the association unveiled a batch sign at the school gate and donated ₦50,000 to orphans of deceased classmates.

Some of  the deceased members,  expressed appreciation and satisfaction with the gesture, describing it as timely and commendable.
