Aminu Abubakar Shilafin Raises Alarm Over Harassment of APC Supporters in Zaria

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from **Kaura Ward in Zaria Local Government Area, Aminu Abubakar Shilafin, has expressed deep frustration over what he described as continued neglect and abandonment by party leaders despite his contributions and loyalty during the last general elections.

Speaking during an interview, Shilafin said he and his supporters worked tirelessly to mobilise voters and ensure victory for the APC in the area, often at personal risk and expense. However, he lamented that since the elections, party leaders have allegedly stopped taking their calls and no longer engage with them, leaving grassroots supporters exposed to intimidation and harassment by opposition elements.

According to him, the situation has created a sense of disappointment and demoralisation among APC loyalists in Kaura Ward, many of whom now feel forgotten and unprotected. He said the lack of communication and recognition from party leadership has weakened morale and made supporters vulnerable to ridicule and pressure from rival political groups.

Shilafin further narrated an incident during the distribution of what he described as “democracy materials” Hon Abbas Tajudeen in Zaria, where tensions reportedly escalated between him, his supporters and other party members. He alleged that the exercise was poorly coordinated and exclusionary, leading to disagreements that degenerated into physical confrontation.

He claimed that the disagreement eventually led to the involvement of security personnel, during which he was allegedly harassed and maltreated. Shilafin said the incident was humiliating and painful, especially considering his long-standing loyalty to the party and his role in strengthening APC structures at the grassroots.

The APC stalwart criticised what he termed the unresponsive attitude of the leadership at the Speaker’s office political structure,” accusing them of deliberately ignoring his complaints and refusing to take his calls despite repeated attempts to seek clarification and reconciliation.

He stressed that his concerns are not driven by personal ambition but by the need to protect and encourage loyal party supporters who continue to stand by the APC despite facing intimidation from opposition forces. According to him, failure to address these grievances could weaken the party’s grassroots base ahead of future elections.

Shilafin called on APC leaders at all levels to urgently reconnect with grassroots members, listen to their concerns and ensure fairness, inclusiveness and respect within party activities. He warned that continued neglect of loyal supporters could breed disunity and discourage active participation in party affairs.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the APC but insisted that loyalty must be reciprocated with recognition, dialogue and protection for those who have stood by the party through difficult times.
