The Equipment Maintenance and Development Centre (EMDC) of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has inaugurated an Energy Compliance Officer to strengthen the university's efforts toward reducing energy consumption and electricity costs.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the EMDC Boardroom on the university's Main Campus in Samaru, the Director of the Centre, Dr. Abdussalam Isma'ila Galadima, said the initiative was aimed at promoting energy conservation and encouraging the adoption of renewable energy across the institution.
Dr. Galadima announced the appointment of Engineer Hassan Abdallah as the Centre's Energy Compliance Officer, describing him as a competent and committed officer capable of driving the initiative. He urged members of staff and the university community to cultivate the habit of switching off electrical appliances when not in use, noting that such a practice would conserve energy, improve safety, and reduce operational costs.
He further disclosed that the officer would coordinate training programmes on the fabrication of solar panels and other renewable energy components as part of efforts to promote clean and sustainable energy solutions within the university.
Responding, Engineer Hassan Abdallah expressed appreciation to the management of the Centre for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to discharge his responsibilities with diligence. He also appealed to members of staff to support the initiative to ensure the successful implementation of the university's energy compliance programme.
