The discussions took place during a working visit by a delegation from FUE Zaria, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure, to the headquarters of CDTD in Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
The engagement sought to identify areas of mutual interest and establish a framework for collaboration that would combine the university's academic and technical expertise with CDTD's extensive experience in community-based development initiatives.
Key areas of discussion included curriculum and training collaboration, technology-enhanced learning, decent work and skills development, research and capacity building, as well as empowerment and community outreach programmes.
Speaking during the meeting, Professor Bunkure emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships in promoting innovation, improving educational access, and equipping young people with relevant skills needed to meet contemporary development challenges.
The Vice-Chancellor and members of his delegation also held fruitful discussions with the Executive Director of CDTD, Ms. Edith Murogo, and Mr. Chrispin Kimani on possible implementation strategies and modalities for sustaining the partnership.
CDTD, a renowned non-governmental organisation based in Nairobi, has earned international recognition for its work in economic empowerment, domestic workers' welfare, and social justice advocacy. Its Executive Director, Ms. Edith Murogo, was a recipient of the 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report Hero Award presented by former United States Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken.
The proposed partnership is expected to leverage the strengths of both institutions to advance human capital development, expand access to quality education, and enhance community engagement initiatives across the region.
At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue discussions on the operational framework, funding opportunities, and programme design necessary to formalise and implement the partnership.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by the Acting Registrar, Malam Shehu Iya Sa'idu; Director of the TETFund Centre of Excellence for Technology-Enhanced Learning (TeCETEL), Professor Ilesanmi Ajibola; and the Dean of the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, Professor Kabir Haruna Danja.
