Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ have pledged continued media support towards projecting the activities and success stories of the Federal University of Education, Zaria.
The assurance was given during a courtesy visit by the executive members of NUJ Zaria Unit to the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, at the university campus in Zaria on Thursday.
Speaking during the visit, the Secretary of the union, Malam Mustapha Adamu Yauri of the News Agency of Nigeria, said journalists in Zaria were ready to partner with the university in publicizing programmes and developmental efforts of the university.
He noted that educational institutions required constructive media engagement to enhance public awareness especially a new university like the FUE Zaria and encourage community participation in academic growth.
Yauri explained that the visit was also aimed at strengthening the relationship between the NUJ and the university management.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Education Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure appreciated the union for the visit and described the media as an essential partner in national development.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university had continued to witness progress in different sectors since the commencement of the current administration, including academic expansion, infrastructure improvement and welfare initiatives for staff and students.
He added that the management remained focused on building a conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
Prof. Bunkure further called for sustained professional collaboration between journalists and the institution to ensure accurate and balanced reportage of educational activities.
He pledged to operate an open door policy especially to the press to encourage balanced reportage, urging members to seek for clarification on any issue they are in doubt.
