The Director General of the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), Zaria, Dr. Kabiru Muazu, has assured journalists of a sustained and effective working relationship aimed at promoting the institute’s research breakthroughs and innovations.
Dr. Muazu gave the assurance when executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zaria Unit, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
According to the DG, journalists play a vital role as “pillars of progress” for any institution by publicizing its activities to stakeholders and the general public, thereby encouraging greater participation and awareness.
He expressed concern that several research findings across the country were gathering dust on shelves without practical utilization — a situation which, he said, contributes to unemployment and underdevelopment.
> “NARICT will not allow its research outcomes and innovations to rust away on shelves without being properly utilized,” Dr. Muazu stated.
To strengthen collaboration with the media, the DG immediately approved a training programme for journalists to enhance their understanding and reporting of scientific and research-related issues.
He also directed the formation of a planning committee to kick-start the training programme, to be chaired by his Special Adviser, Engineer Bashir.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of NUJ Zaria Unit, Comrade Abubakar Sadiq, congratulated Dr. Muazu on his appointment and reaffirmed the union’s commitment to rekindling the long-standing partnership between the institute and the media.
He added that one of the major objectives of the visit was to discuss the need for training journalists on accurate and effective reporting of NARICT’s activities and scientific developments.
The visit was attended by top management staff of NARICT and executive members of the NUJ Zaria Unit.
