The Kaduna State Government says it has concluded plans to commence the implementation of the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit System.
The Acting Director General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority, KADSTRA, Engineer Inuwa Ibrahim stated this during a media engagement with journalists in Kaduna.
He said the engagement was to keep citizens abreast of the developmental strides of the present administration.
Inuwa Ibrahim explained that the Kaduna BRT, which is the first in the history of the State and second in the country after Lagos State, has passed through planning and design stages.
According to him, the project when completed will generate between ten and twenty thousand jobs along its twenty four kilometre corridor.
The Acting Director General noted that one hundred and twenty Compressed Natural Gas, CNG powered articulated buses will ply the corridor, a development which he said will reduce transportation cost and ensure a cleaner environment.
In a remark, the Project Coordinator of the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit System, Engineer Aliyu Usman, said the project will ensure efficient and sustainable urban transportation.
He pointed out that apart from reducing travel time and traffic congestion, the BRT when operational will address the emission of greenhouse gases in line with sustainable development goals.
The PC, said the system is equipped with Intelligent Transport System, ITS, to enhance security of passengers.
He added that the project which is being financed by the French Development Agency, AFD, with counterpart funding from the Kaduna State Government, will be completed within one and a half years under ideal conditions.
Engr. Aliyu Usman noted that KADSTRA has established formal terminals at Mando, Kakuri and Millennium City as part of efforts to transit from informal to formal transportation system in the State.
Some journalists who participated in the stakeholders engagement have pledged to support the project through objective and adequate publicity for its success.
