Prof. Imam stated this while speaking with newsmen in Kaduna .
He explained that NBAIS was established in 1960 and had been in existence for decades, contrary to the perception that it was a recently created institution.
According to him, NBAIS operated as a department under the Institute of Education at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, from 1969 until 2016.
The Registrar said that in 2011, the National Council on Education granted the institution full autonomy, transforming it into a national examination and regulatory body.
Prof. Imam disclosed that NBAIS currently has more than 1,200 affiliated centres across the country, with about 500,000 registered candidates and over 200 programmes.
He said the Board conducts nationally recognised examinations leading to Senior Arabic and Islamic Secondary School Certificates, Qur’anic Studies (Tahfeez), as well as examinations under its science curriculum.
The Registrar noted that NBAIS had played a significant role in integrating traditional Islamic education with Nigeria’s formal education system.
He maintained that the institution’s long history and contribution to education should be properly understood, particularly in discussions concerning its mandate and relationship with other national examination bodies.
