The initiative is part of the 2026/2027 school enrolment campaign themed “Enroll Today – Give Your Child the Gift of Education,” aimed at ensuring that every child of school age has access to free and compulsory basic education.
As part of the campaign, SUBEB and UBEC organised a sensitisation walk in Zaria Local Government Area to create awareness about the importance of education and encourage parents and guardians to enrol their children in school.
The exercise also targeted children who have dropped out of school, with parents urged to ensure that such children return and continue their education.
Speaking shortly after the walk, the Secretary of Education, Zaria Local Government Area, Dr. Hassana Muhammad Lawal, appealed to parents to enrol their children in school and make deliberate efforts to return those who had stopped attending.
Dr. Hassana also urged parents to ensure that their children resume school promptly after the holidays, stressing that regular attendance is essential for effective learning and improved educational outcomes.
She called for greater cooperation between parents, communities and education authorities to address factors contributing to school dropout and low enrolment.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Zaria Local Government Area, Engineer Jamilu Ahmad Muhammad, represented by the Secretary of the council, Alhaji Shuaibu Abdullahi Mai Canter, urged parents to enrol their children and encourage those who had dropped out to resume their studies.
He commended the Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his efforts towards supporting the education sector in Zaria and other parts of the state.
The campaign is expected to further promote awareness of the government’s provision of free and compulsory basic education, qualified teachers and safe learning environments for children.
The sensitisation walk was attended by education stakeholders, SUBEB representatives, community members and other relevant stakeholders in Zaria Local Government Area.
The organisers stressed that sustained collaboration among government, parents, communities, teachers and other stakeholders is essential to improving school enrolment, attendance and completion rates across Kaduna State.
